Frank Lloyd Wright was one of the earliest adopters of the low-slung massing and clean, horizontal lines, and though seemingly traditional, the typology embodied much of the ethos of modernism. The ranch was mass-produced, housed huge amounts of middle-class workers, and offered clean, efficient spaces for living.
