Atomic Furnishing and Design | by Thomas CalderMegan-and-Todd-Couple-Shot-1-e1457639809835

Check out this post by Thomas Calder written for Porter Briggs. Here’s a snippet,“A white vinyl tufted mid-century bench is how Atomic Furnishing & Design ultimately got its start—a business owned and operated by the husband and wife team, Todd and Megan Walsh. Of course, they didn’t start out as a couple. Nor did they know going in that this mid-century bench would spark a future business.” We are always so happy to see Megan and Todd get well deserved attention. Cheers to you!

Dwellings CompI stopped by Dwellings yesterday while driving through Biltmore Village. Here are a few highlights of some of their contemporary furnishings within their design warehouse. Dwellings is open Wed-Sat from 10am to 5pm and Sundays from noon to 5pm. Stop by and browse their endless selection for something to warm up your nest this winter. Cheers!

mid-century modern furnishings asheville home house real estateIn doing some online research for information on swiss architect, artist and designer Max Bill I came across this article and thought it was worth sharing to our audience. The article by Julia Millay Walsh gives a brief on 11 influential designers of last century whose furnishings are highly sought after today. So, take some time and enjoy this stroll through mid-century design history here. Cheers!

Dwellings | Warm Modern Furnishings

IMG_2298Kelly and I stopped into Dwellings today following our monthly partner lunch. We always enjoy visiting. With a warehouse big enough for roller skates one can browse endlessly through room vignettes of both rustic and modern furnishings for every room in your house. As always, they feature furnishings with clean lines and warm textures. So, if you are looking for modern furnishings you can cuddle up with or that wear like your favorite pair of slippers make it your next destination. Cool has never been so comfortable. Cheers!Comp

Modernist Furniture Maker | Ben Rosenberg

coffee.table copyKelly and I met with local furniture maker Ben Rosenberg at the Grovewood Gallery on Wednesday afternoon. Ben studied welding and furniture making at Haywood Community College. Ben’s inspiration comes from the great designers and furniture makers from the early modern movement creating furniture with clean lines and subtle curves. Ben says, “These elements reflect my belief that thoughtful design creates uncluttered, functional, and beautiful pieces of furniture.” We agree.Ben Comp

Ben uses locally and sustainably harvested lumber whenever possible that is either air dried or dried in a solar kiln. Not only is this better the environment, but helps retain the woods natural color and also provides him with lumber that is superior to work with.

Ben’s goal is to provide our clientele with beautifully handcrafted, heirloom quality furniture that is built to last lifetimes. For more on Ben visit his website here or stop by the Grovewood Furniture Gallery. Cheers!

Dwellings | Inspired Home

I visited with Chris at Dwellings over the weekend to see what modern and eclectic furnishings he had in his current warehouse showroom. One of the items I discovered was a cool, sleeper sofa shown in bottom left photo. I know many folks, including myself, struggle to find one that is modern, comfortable and affordable. This one looks good. There is still an assortment of items that combine mid-century elements with rustic finishes — perfect for Asheville. Chris says he has new containers coming next month so be sure to stop by this winter. For hours and location click here.Dwellings Comp

Vintage Overstock Pop-Up Shop | Sept 24th – 28th

IMG_6213Kelly and I stopped in at the Vintage Overstock Pop-up Store today to throw our support and eye some cool furnishings. Three of our favorite vintage mid-century dealers have teamed together to create a temporary store. Currently they are at MIX. Above Kelly is catching up with Christi and Simon of Eldorado Salvage. Kelly from Oddfellows was there doing some shopping. Of course we caught up with Michelle at MIX who was hosting at her well curated store. Overall, there is a cool variety of mid-century and rustic furnishings to choose from. Stop by tomorrow! The shop will be in place at MIX {101 Fairview Road} from today thru Sept. 28th. Cheers! Atomic Furnishings + Design | Grand Opening

IMG_0373I stopped by to visit with Hannah, Megan and Todd yesterday as they put the finishing touches on their new showroom, Atomic Furnishing & Design. Their mid-century furnishings shop will open this Saturday the 16th. The doors open at noon, but the festivities are between 5 and 8pm. Kelly, Chett and myself {the other Mod Squad} will no doubt be crashing it.

Todd and Megan combined forces having both been individual pickers of mid-century modern. Megan is an interior designer and Todd a carpenter and furniture restorer. Hannah, a Doula, brought her caring sense, natural style and handiwork skills in refinishing and upholstery. The trio combined and originally opened a booth in Screen Door, but success led them seeking wider spaces. They are now in Woodfin at 115 Elk Mountain. IMG_0374Stop by this Saturday for their debut and chat them up about their Paul McCobb chairs or their interior design. See you there! Troy

Tarleton of Oddfellows

TarletonI stopped in to visit Tarleton at Oddfellow Antiques today. She has assisted me in downsizing on several occasions so I wanted to help her in her own retail downsizing. She is condensing her booths and has all non-sale items marked down 30% and all sale items an additional 10%. Stop by this beautiful Asheville weekend and pick up something to take back to your very own Brady house. Cheers! Troy
