Architectural Tour | Smokey Park Supper Club

IMG_6354As a member of our local chapter of American Institute of Architects we were invited on a tour today of the developing Smokey Park Supper Club. It was a great opportunity to get another sneak peek. Lead architect Myles Alexander of Form and Function led the tour for his fellow architects in the community.IMG_6351

The project is one of the largest assemblages of shipping containers in the United States. The overall goal is to leave as much of the containers as raw as possible. Exterior walls are required to be built out with insulation on the interior. These walls will ultimately be finished out with equally rustic materials. The interior walls dividing rooms will remain in their natural state. The wood floors will simply be coated and polished as they are. Externally, the corten steel is coated to retain the natural rust surface.Supper Club Comp

The rustic nature of the project shrouds an underlying sophistication. Much like the work of a set designer, the siting of the building creates a theatrical experience with perfectly framed views of the river along with elements of the building’s industrial context. The decking naturally follows the flood plane on one side marrying the structure to the river and then around to the road. The layered experience from Riverview Road through the interior to the deck and beyond to the river again should provide a stimulating backdrop for endless entertaining. I know Kelly and I can’t wait to hang out and toast to it’s opening. Cheers! IMG_6332
