Maker Spotlight | Lexington Glassworks

interiorYesterday, I stopped by Lexington Glassworks having strolled past their open door a few times a week on my way to my “go-to” yoga studio Go Yoga. Having arrived a bit too early I decided to finally step into the space. Wow! I had no idea how established of a venue it was. I could always see that the product was well IMG_4786crafted, but the space itself was equally and thoughtfully crafted, too. From layout to detail they have created a mindful experience around glass blowing making it a blend of retail, education and cool social space. I’ll refrain from saying a whole lot more, but simply encourage you to visit. Their own space and website tells their story better than I so I’ll step back and let them take over. If you haven’t been — GO. They have a beer on tap and a schedule for live music. Cheers!Lex Two

Covet | Industrial Modern

1617667_257960871053152_367977811_oThere is nothing I like more than mid-century relics with a patina of rust or layers of paint. Items from the industrial 20th century seem to get my attention. Perhaps it’s a more manly or utilitarian version of modern. Delicate furnishings don’t last well in my domain. Industrial strength is a requirement. Thus, you find I store my t-shirts in old military filing cabinets and my kitchen cutting board sits atop a repurposed, 5o’s school projector cart.Covet

It is a popular style here and there are many places one can find it in Asheville. One of those is Covet’s booth at the Screen Door. From old lockers, manufacturing cabinets, laboratory equipment and old signage they have it covered. If you would like to keep up with their inventory stop by in person or like Covet’s Facebook page here. Have a great weekend. Cheers!1978527_257960377719868_940472229_o-1

Finding “Found Imagery” by John Arge

IMG_0581Yesterday, following my visit with artist and architect Peter Alberice I peeked into the “Indie Handmade” shop called Garage 34 Project on South Lexington for the first time. The retailer displays a mix of artistic creations along with vintage home furnishings and, my personal favorite, cowboy boots — Yeehaw! There I discovered the retro stationary creations of Jon Arge. Of course I had to stop and browse through the cards, collages and notebooks he has crafted by hand. So, be sure to stop by Garage 34 for some clever and light-hearted retail therapy. Enjoy!IMG_0585

Black Mountain | the Asheville House

IMG_0507While Kelly and I were working with a real estate investor client yesterday in Black Mountain I stopped to visit with Lincoln and Charlotte at their store, the Asheville House, yesterday to see what new furnishings they had in. They still maintain a nice blend of mid-century styled and industrial furnishings. Be sure to stop by when you are visiting Black Mountain to check out their inventory. IMG_0508
