Ventana | A View from the Very Top

IMG_2065We met up with one of the owners of Ventana yesterday for a great Jeep tour of the development and to view the upcoming land + modern home packages nearing the final stages of design prior to release. We were fortunate enough to get a sneak peek of the preliminary designs and floor plans and are thrilled to have potential inventory that meets a variety of our modern buyer’s needs. The photo above shows the Asheville downtown view from Phase Two which should release in the fall of this year. They promise to send us information as they have it so sit tight folks! Town Mountain | Vintage Rustic Modern Home

rockhold compI previewed this unique and cool home today. The home is just off of Town Mountain Road and was built in 1947. The main space you see below was originally an outdoor courtyard, but was enclosed with a raised roof to provide a grand living space flooded with natural light. The roof deck offers panoramic views on both sides of Town Mountain. I loved this one! Troy

From Lucky Lane to Windsor Avenue

We love seeing our sign on Windsor Avenue in Lakeview Park. Having been at our listing at 5 Lucky Lane numerous times we often forget that the property extends all the way down to Windsor Avenue while enjoying the view from above. The nature of the lot offers the home privacy and unobstructed views while being in a great walkable neighborhood. It is the best of both worlds.

Bert King meets Virant Design

Kelly and I were able to tour 549 Sunset yesterday in North Asheville.  Sunset extThe Bert King designed, mid-century home sitting above Sunset Dr. has been undergoing thoughtful updating by Tom and Yumiko Virant for the past two years and is truly ready for the next century. They seamlessly updated the kitchen, bathrooms and the homes interior/exterior relationship opening it up to a variety of garden and view experiences. All the wiring was updated as well. Stay tuned for more to come soon.

FOR SALE: 80 Horizon Hill

80 Horizon Hill MainPrice: $795,000

Size: 2500 – 3000 sqft

Amenities: 3 Beds + 2.5 Baths + Green + View

This is still one of our favorite listings in town and a chance to own one of Asheville’s newer architectural homes on a stunning hill-top between downtown and North Asheville. Neighbored by one of my favorite Bert King designed, mid-century homes along with a modernized ranch owned by one of our top artists and designers in town, the dramatic location seems to have inspired many modern styled constructions. This home was built in 2005 and was designed by PBCL Architects and constructed by Rare Earth Builders. Maria Rusafova, who worked on the home while at PBCL and is a featured Modern Asheville architect, provides more detailed information on this home on her own website.

SOLD: 661 Elk Mountain Scenic Highway

Sale Price: $1,610,000

Size: 3516 sqft

Amenities: 4 Beds + 3.5 Baths + View

Great to see that this house recently sold up at Ciel this year. Below is from a past article I had written on it in 2011.

The Bower House

The Bower House is in punch list phase of completion and I was fortunate enough to get a little tour yesterday from the listing agent. The 3516 sq/ft. home encompasses 4 bedrooms and 3.5 Baths and is currently listed at $1,595,000. Overall, the two things I like the most about this speculative designer home is the scale and the way it sits on the lot. Hunter Paul Coffey of Blowing Rock designed the contemporary home and is savvy to dramatic mountain settings. The house comfortably takes advantage of both the slope and the dramatic view, offering some indoor/outdoor living options including a retractable wall that slides open to allow for an additional outdoor living room with fireplace.

Interior Designer, Talli Roberts, chose interior materials that warmly blended the mountain and modern aesthetic. Constructed by Cottonwood, it is a very solid, livable mountain home that blends with its mountain environment without overstating itself and wisely bucks the trend of massive living spaces. I think its a high quality home for this moment that will only get better with age and patina.

Under Construction – Ciel’s the “Bower House”

Incredible views and modern living combine to create a sexy, new escape in the mountains.  The community of Ciel which offers mountain and city views of Asheville is breaking ground on a dramatic new contemporary spec home.  Designed by Hunter Paul Coffey of Boone, NC, this 3500 sq/ft, 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath home will combine both earthy and modern materials to fully dramatize Ciel’s tagline “Feel the earth.  Touch the sky”

As you enter the front door you cross an interior bridge that focuses your view directly on Mt. Pisgah.  The main level splits to feature all your open living spaces on one side and a grand master suite on the other.  For those who want one level living this floor has everything you need to accomodate.  For those who need more you can descend to the lower level to find another family room with fireplace and 3 bedrooms/offices that all have views.

The exterior will be finished off with cedar siding in both 1 x4 and 1 x 10 sections along with areas of dry stacked stone.  The roof will be wide standing seam.  The transitional glazing from inside to outside will be made with Lincoln “Touch” windows.  The foyer will will have a retractable glass wall to the outide deck with fireplace.

The interior will feature oak flooring throughout and custom walnut cabinets.  Lux is doing the lighting design and fixture specifications.

As with all Ciel homes this contemporary will be NC HealthyBuilt.  It will include features such as Low E glass, passive solar considerations, rain water retention and a gravel drive.  The house will sell for 1.6 million when completed.  Stay posted as I will be posting updates on the construction of this home.
